Patching Up Buildings with Lego Blocks

Berlin artist Jan Vormann is patching up World War II bomb and shrapnel damaged buildings around Europe using colorful lego blocks.  This project is called DISPATCHWORK is similar to the idea of the Sarajevo Roses. The small interventions remind us of a history, which in some cities, is not that distant.  Cities that have been ‘patched’ include Berlin, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Belgrade and St. Petersburg.

iPad Painting

hongtu_ipad

A finger painting project by one of my most respected friend/artist Zhang Hongtu. Entirely painted on iPad using the Brushes app. Amazingly this app does an animated playback of the process of how this image was painted. Innovation in the contemporary art world! Bravo Hongtu!

The note on the side says he thought about the Qing dynasty finger painter Gao Qipei after he completed the piece. The subject matter in the piece is a historic piece of furnace in his studio which i used to sit around when i visited.

Building Standard Time in Real Time

Screen shot 2010-03-19 at PM 03.48.48

A unique video artwork conceptualized by Mark Formanek. 70 workers built a wooden 4 x 12 m “digital” time display in real time over 24 hours. Standard Time was shot on video and available as a clock. Get it here.

“Standard Time is a performance lasting exactly 24 hours and recorded on film. However, this film is much more than just the recording of an action, the recording of something that has taken place in the past; it is also a clock. A clock for use right now and in the future which, as each day goes by, extends further into the past, but is still up-to-date and punctual.”

YuTUBE at the London Design Festival 2009

yutube

One of the projects I was working on for the past couple of weeks by invitation of the “what do you want to be,strange・r? rooming my world” initiative by [+0] & Singapore Creative Network UK, will be at the London Design Festival 2009. The festival starts Sept 19th through Sept 27th.

yuTUBE, the project, is conceived from the curiosity of embedding modern technology (function) in the past form. A computer transforms itself into the shell of an old tv set with a typewriter operating as its keyboard. Those in the London area, do pop by to say hello and play with it. I’ll have more to reveal and people to thank in the next couple of days during the festival.
