Designed in a collaboration with award-winning product designer Fumie Shibata of Design Studio S, the 9 Hours is the brand new capsule hotel launched in December 2009 by Tokyo-based Cubic Corp. It looks nothing like its predecessors and represents a revolution in the capsule concept. 9h, so called for the average amount of time visitors usually spend in a pod hotel.
“I used black and white because this hotel is about night and morning”
The themed is continued inside the rooms, with white towels and toiletries and black pyjama and slipper sets. The hotel website is also minimal and in the black & white color scheme.

Designer Tokujin Yoshioka has created a line of “invisible” furniture for Kartell utilizing their pioneering polycarbonate technology. This collection includes tables, occasional tables, sofas, armchairs and benches.
“In the last few years I have been thinking about a design that would include natural phenomena and invisible elements such as senses, wind and light. The ‘Invisible’, a special collection launched from Kartell, only leaves the sense as if seating in the air. The presence of the object is eradicated and it will create a scenery of a sitter floating in the air. It is as if the physical presence of the object has been uprooted and gives life to a ‘floating’ scenario. Even the installation itself gives visitors that extraordinary sensation of entering an unreal world.”
Another exciting day for all woman designers of the world. If you are not aware the new BMW Z4 is designed by two female designers – Juliane Blasi, 32, did the exterior and Nadya Arnaout, 37, the interior. This new car is not just a chick car; it appeals both to the X and the Y chromosomes. It is the first BMW roadster with a retractable hardtop. IMO, looks great, really handsome and still sporty; keeping it much simpler than its predecessor. Perhaps this will be the next thing on my shopping list. ^_^
Watch Juliane talks about her design process for the exterior, and Nadya for the interior.
Another fun design – this Gun Ruler is from a French company Atypyk. Measures only in centimeters but cool to own one. You gotta wait though cos it’s currently out of stock!
Size: 9.25″l x 4.25″w.
Rose & Radish
Really dig the concept and idea for this fun design!
I will be taping everyday if i get my hands on this!
Available this Fall at j-me
Such inspiration!! Anyone saw the Hood Chair by Brodberg & Ridderstrale? Made of plywood, steel and felt, the chair celebrates the marriage of furniture and clothing design. The idea is wild but i love it!
Fancy wiping your ass down with a bright lime green paper or a black one to cover any unsightly, erm, residual elements from your toilet session?
No you have not heard me incorrectly. YES bath tissue in color!
Apparently it has been advertised as a “THIS SEASON’S MUST HAVE!” and i got the email from Daily Candy. wow.
If you like, get it from Renova, the Portuguese paper company that introduced sleek, black T.P. in NYC clubs and lounges, makes rolls in other shades, too. Like orange and black — just in time for Halloween.
How do you like it if you can play with your external harddisks, like stacking them together to build a bridge or something? Designed by the world-famous designer Ora-Ïto, I thought it is the best (and brilliant!) design for an external harddisk – in Lego style! By LaCie who calls it the Brick, comes in cute red, blue and white, in capacities from 160GB to 500GB, and prices from $120 to $400. I got one myself, gotta go get more to build something out of it! And, i need to redesign my office around it…uhm…
Something groovy about this iPod Speaker Dock. Retro it may look but there is nothing old fashioned about the sound quality of the SpeckTone iPod Speaker Dock.
28 watts of sound from two 3″ drivers behind the front grille and a 4″ subwoofer on the bottom means the Specktone produces both loud and a high quality audio.
Available in 3 retro cool colours, the SpeckTone is a neat addition to any living space.
I wanna get one!!!
Check it out at their website.
