OFFF Paris 2010 – Intros for Friday’s Presentations
I like friday’s intros at OFFF 2010 the most, as it uses typography in a very interesting way. By Paco Lopez & Beatriz Torrecillas.

A satirical yet rather informational of the history of Cooper Black - one of my favorite typeface. See the video here. No typeface was hurt in the making of the film. A production by Mastication is Normal.

Sounds like an oxymoron – kanji that is pictogrammed when a kanji is a pictogram. Japanese designer Masaaki Hiromura cleverly combined type with illustration to reinforce the idea of the word as well as a graphic symbol. On how he came up with the pictograms:
We looked at the meanings each kanji letter has. making a part of the letter an illustration gets right and left brain working at the same time, and it increases one’s attention.
Hiromura-san is also the graphic designer behind the 9h hotel in Kyoto.
A stop motion piece created by students & faculty for the 5th Typophile Film Festival. A visual typographic feast about the five senses, and how they contribute to and enhance our creativity.
A rather innovative campaign by Toyota with interactive designer Zachary Lieberman, typographers Pierre & Damien and a race car driver Stef van Campenhoudt, they created new font at the same time promoting the car. Likely to appeal to the designer-types. I just love the entire process, especially the using of technology to translate motion into a typeface. It’s really an art – a performing art installation piece, not just about technology. Inspiring stuff.
