The Slide at Alexanderplatz by Volkswagen
Tired of walking? An installation by Volkswagen in the Alexanderplatz u-bahn station in Berlin encouraging people to skip the stairs. It’s fun!

Old mobile phones are upcycled to create this interactive installation. Music is activated by receiving a tweet via Twitter. Each phone is assigned a tone and the computer will orchestrate the serenade. Clever idea and I could play this over and over again.
Upcycling is a component of sustainability in which waste materials are used to provide new products.
This Prius campaign that launched in Times Square couple days back allows anyone with the Prius iPhone app to add their drawing and content on the fly to the massive billboard. If you are in the area, check it out by downloading the app.
Love this~! Awesome idea using FUN to change people’s behavior. Life’s too short. Let’s have fun!

One of the projects I was working on for the past couple of weeks by invitation of the “what do you want to be,strange・r? rooming my world” initiative by [+0] & Singapore Creative Network UK, will be at the London Design Festival 2009. The festival starts Sept 19th through Sept 27th.
yuTUBE, the project, is conceived from the curiosity of embedding modern technology (function) in the past form. A computer transforms itself into the shell of an old tv set with a typewriter operating as its keyboard. Those in the London area, do pop by to say hello and play with it. I’ll have more to reveal and people to thank in the next couple of days during the festival.

A rather innovative campaign by Toyota with interactive designer Zachary Lieberman, typographers Pierre & Damien and a race car driver Stef van Campenhoudt, they created new font at the same time promoting the car. Likely to appeal to the designer-types. I just love the entire process, especially the using of technology to translate motion into a typeface. It’s really an art – a performing art installation piece, not just about technology. Inspiring stuff.
We’ve seen a lot augmented reality campaigns out there these days but this video provides an insight on how the MINI Augmented Reality campaign was built. Thought the campaign is also really quite cool as well. Check it out.
Another piece of awesome digital graffiti piece by Digital Slaves. This time with Arabic calligraphy by French calligrapher Julien Breton aka Kaalam. The interface allows the calligrapher to choose the texture, the width and height as well as color. Most of all, it feels and looks like the real thing. Equipments involved: one industrial camera at 60 fps, a home made lamp and a touch screen with an interface. Super cool ~

An experimental project by Nils Völker currently part of an art and design exhibition ”Makers & Spectators” at the MU in Eindhoven. He built this robot from lego and has it suspended from the ceiling to draw dots on a pile of paper. The dots are drawn based on the eye tracker’s documentation of what a visitor looks at. Pretty amazing. Check it out in action!
